MATILDE: OUR VISION
The three pillars of our philosophy
Matilde was born in the beautiful hills
of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene
from the dream of three brothers.
In symbiosis with a forest, olive trees and beehives,
Matilde’s vineyard embraces
traditional winemaking techniques
with organic excellence.
CULTURE
A family and its roots
We are three brothers, Giacomo, Leopoldo and Francesco, with different life stories but a common vision: that of our family and our land, to which we are very attached. Despite being born and raised abroad, our roots remain firm in the hills of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene. In 2016, following the example of our grandfather and then our father, we decided to plant our own Glera vineyard. Together as brothers, we have realized a dream: that of producing our Prosecco, a high-quality product obtained with full respect for the environment and our beloved land. We called it Matilde, in homage to our great-great-grandmother and the family home (Villa Matilde), which has always been a reference point for us.
The Conegliano and Valdobbiadene hills, an emblem of the best Italian viticulture characterized by steep hills facing south, where the microclimate and the characteristics of the soil have allowed the production of superior quality grapes since Roman times. The Prosecco Superiore DOCG denomination, the highest in the Italian wine sector, requires compliance with strict regulations, rigorous agricultural methods and strict control of yields per hectare. In 2019 our hills were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, both recognizing and aiming to preserve the balance found between man and nature.
COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE
Sustainability and Organic Practices
The Glera vines have been cultivated for centuries by the winemakers of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, the first territory to ban any use of glyphosate. Today, we are personally involved in the vineyard work, guided by our agronomist Federico Tacoli, who shares our philosophy: maximum preservation of the ecosystem and the vitality of the territory in which we operate. Together, we are implementing innovative techniques, aimed at increasingly eco-sustainable vineyard management. Not only is our vineyard bio-certified (organic), but we use natural methods as much as possible, such as the green manure technique and the insertion of useful insects that combat parasites. Furthermore, we carry out pruning, harvesting and other crucial interventions for the well-being of the vines entirely by hand. But Matilde is not only Prosecco: out of our 9 hectares of hills in Cozzuolo, only 2 are cultivated with vineyards, while the forest covers about 5, and the remaining 2 are dedicated to orchards and olive trees.
BEAUTY
Art and the Joy of Living
Matilde is the name of our great-great-grandmother and of the historic family home (Villa Matilde) that is dedicated to her. The art nouveau structure is located in Vittorio Veneto: birthplace of Lorenzo Da Ponte – Mozart’s librettist. The roof is decorated with four statues that represent the four seasons in agriculture. The third one, symbol of fall and harvesting season, raises her arms to the sky: in one hand she holds a bunch of grapes, and in the other a glass of wine. To us, she is the perfect representation of timeless elegance, hard work in the vineyard, care of the land, love of art, but also the joy of a simple cheer with friends. Its adoption as a brand and label, using it in homage to our ancestor, immediately appeared to us as the most logical choice to represent the philosophy of our project.
The passion for art and beautiful things in general is also expressed by appreciating life in its most authentic moments. An aperitivo in good company, a dinner with friends, a family party, all these moments deserve to be celebrated with joy and quality. Our wine is the way we have chosen to pay homage to conviviality, to the pleasures of sitting around a table, to the indissoluble bonds of love and friendship.
PROSECCO’S PYRAMID
On the summit of quality
TERRITORY
At the heart of excellence
It is in this setting that our project was born and has stood since then. The lands that compose the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene territory stretch endlessly and uninterrupted; their fertility and the tranquility they exude offer an ideal refuge for the typical endemic animal species, as can be appreciated by strolling through the hills. The grapes currently cultivated and used for Matilde Prosecco production cover 2 out of the 9 hectares of our hill. The rows of vines are the new protagonists of the landscape, stretching out regularly and neatly along the hills, renewing the identity of the panorama, which remains enchanting in all seasons.
